About
Software Requirements: Class for Windows writes to a Microsoft SQL
or SQL Express database and has direct links to Word/Excel/(Outlook or
SMTP). Class requires
Office 2010 Pro1 or above and please note that Outlook "Express" will
not work with Class. For email we
recommend the use of Simple SMTP instead of Outlook. If you do not have an
Exchange email system, simple SMTP can be forwarded through basic IIS on a
Windows XP PC. Important:
The Operating system, SQL, and
Microsoft Office must have the latest patches applied. There may be issues with
some versions of Windows/Office if patches have not been applied.
Excel, Word, Shared Items and Tools need to be installed
fully. SQL Express
Edition (It is possible to use
a stand alone PC for up to 8 users after which our recommendation is to have
full SQL Server on a Windows Server) For use only on smaller sites (max 8 users). The Microsoft SQL Express version has
built in limitations in terms of what Server resources it can utilise, the
maximum size of databases, number of CPU's and the amount of RAM available to be
used by the SQL databases Software.

SQL Server 2008 Standard edition 64Bit(X86) Recommended choice (smaller

SQL Server 2008 Express 64bit(X86)
Recommended choice The "Standard" edition of MS SQL Server needs to be installed & necessary client licences (SQL express needs no licences but will need the SQL Engine and tools
installed). These are not provided with Class. (A help sheet is available to assist with
settings, but we would suggest that
you allow Infospeed to carry this out). Full SQL has
the ability to back its self up to a folder which would then need to be backed
up again using a conventional backup software program. Alternatively, an agent is available from
Symantec (Backup Exec) for use with open file systems like SQL server; other
less expensive software is also available such as sqlbackupandftp and SyncBackuppro.
